10 Must-Haves for an Efficient Office Desk and Productivity Setup

If you are an entrepreneur and working long hours, being productive can enhance your performance. Gary Vaynerchuk is very vocal on this topic as he says in a recent video, “It’s not how much you sleep, but what you do with your time when you are awake.”

So, when you are awake and working at your desk, you want to be highly productive. Here are my picks of 10 indispensable office products to boost your productivity:

1. Embody Chair by Herman Miller

As I’ve written before, German researchers have found that sitting too much can result in some serious health issues, including high cholesterol and heart disease. An easy way to offset this damage is to invest in a high-quality sitting chair, especially if you are working for long hours or are already experiencing some pain and stress while working.

Herman Miller is best in class and the Embody Chair speaks for itself. According to the Herman Miller website, more than twenty physicians and PhDs in the fields of biomechanics, vision, physical therapy, and ergonomics have contributed their expertise to create this beautiful chair, and it is carefully designed to support better posture and movements.

2. WorkFit-D by Ergotron

An ergonomic chair is great, but there are times when you just can’t sit any longer and you start feeling sluggish. This feeling is not alien to people who work on computers, and that is why we’ve seen a rise in the trend for standing desks.

The WorkFit-D is ideal if you want a change; it is designed with a patented CF technology that is perfect for promoting good health. The patent allows an instantaneous and non-motorized lever that can be used to adjust the desk’s height according to your needs so that you not only work more efficiently but also without pain.

3. Polarizing LED Task Lights by 3M

Lighting is extremely essential for a productive workspace as poor lighting can cause eyestrain and headaches. I see a lot of entrepreneurs who ignore their lighting, and as a result, their productivity is affected. This is why I  recommend getting a good office desk lamp for a productivity setup.

The Polarizing LED Task Light by 3M is by far the best desk lamp I’ve come across. It reduces glare up to 80 percent, which helps in reading, and reduces stress on the eyes. It also doesn’t take up a lot of space, is highly adjustable, and has a touch sensor with seven brightness levels that gets my stamp of approval.

4. MacBook Pro by Apple

Notebooks have changed the way we work and have been a revolutionary utility tech product that is here to stay. A modern-day notebook provides both performance and portability, and is a tool that entrepreneurs must have.

When it comes to picking the right notebook, the MacBook Pro with Retina Display is the best notebook you can get. It offers a best-in-class display, advanced processor, high-performance graphics, and super-fast storage that makes it a dream machine for YouTubers, podcasters, designers, developers, and business owners.

5. Thunderbolt Display by Apple

Notebooks are great, but screen size is where you often have to sacrifice. But not anymore as Apple has introduced its first Thunderbolt Display that will give you the freedom you are looking for. A large screen size is ideal if you are editing videos or writing a book where you have to open two windows; Apple’s latest OS X El Capitan split screen feature is very useful.

The extra real estate definitely makes sense to have in a productivity setup. The Thunderbolt Display offers 16:9 aspect ratios and a whopping 2560 by 1440 resolution that will give you more room to work with your apps using your MacBook Pro.

If you feel any discomfort using a notebook, Thunderbolt Display should be your go-to choice to get the extra real estate while having the portability of a notebook that you can take anywhere.

6. BookArc for MacBook by Twelve South

BookArc has become my favorite accessory for my MacBook. The vertical stand is the most famous one out there and is designed to free up desk space on your setup. Tech journalists are saying that it is an invaluable addition to a MacBook-connected setup with an external display.

For a productivity setup, BookArc is perfect as it lets you use your MacBook with an external large monitor, a Bluetooth keyboard, and a mouse for a comfortable work setup in a closed-clamshell mode. For creative people, the aesthetics of their workspace can also improve their productivity, so a lot of designers strive for the minimalistic approach when it comes to designing their work area.

Here is a preview of what it looks like:

7. 70D by Canon

We are living in a world where we have to become the PR version of ourselves, and that’s often why what we share or curate on platforms like Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook are not authentic.

On the contrary, we are seeing a rise in video-based platforms like Snapchat, Meerkat, and Periscope that are helping to break the barrier by allowing us to interact live with our audience. I think the best platform that allows individuals to create a brand and an audience is YouTube, and even teenagers have built millions of followers when marketers have failed.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC RX-100 IV is the best vlogging camera that your setup needs; the Canon 70D is great if you want to use video shooting lenses. This particular bundle is the best offer out there to get a professional DSLR camera with autofocus.

8. Procaster Microphone by Rode

A good microphone is a must-have for anyone who is into video creation, podcasts/interviews, or music. As a modern day entrepreneur who is expected to dabble into any one of these things (video creation, podcasts, or interviews), a mic is a part of an overall desk setup.

The Rode Procaster is a professional grade dynamic microphone that is designed for every application with its internal pop filter, shock mount, and balanced low impedance output; it’s ideal for voice-overs and interviews. I know a lot of creators who use it, and it gets a seal of approval for sure.

9. Apple Watch by Apple

The smartwatch industry is growing at a staggering pace; just last year over 1.3 billion worth of watches were sold, and the industry is expected to be valued at more than 100 billion in the next five years. In another post, I shared how smartwatches are a must-have for entrepreneurs for productivity, fitness, and time management.

The Apple Watch is by far the best smartwatch out there that lets you receive and respond to notifications, monitor and track your daily activity, and use the apps to get the most out of it. Smartwatches aren’t just a fad, but practical devices that should be part of your work environment and a desk setup.

10. All-in-One Printer

There was a time when we needed to have four different machines for scanning, printing, photocopying, and faxing, but now we have all-in-one printers which are both affordable and have a great utility value.

The Canon PIXMA MX922 Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax is the best all-in-one device out there. It offers fast printing speeds and is accessible with iPhones and iPads. It can even print from a movie recorded on a Canon DSLR or PowerShot point-and-shoot camera.
